President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo said on December 2, 2024 that “Mexico will never be less” than Canada, following the dinner between Justin Pierre James Trudeau – Prime Minister of Canada since November 4, 2015 – and Donald Trump – Republican Party candidate and former US president, from January 20, 2017 to January 20, 2021 -, president-elect of the United States, held on November 29 of the same year, at the New York magnate’s mansion, Mar-a-Lago, located in Palm Beach, Florida.
During her morning press conference – held from the Treasury Room of the National Palace – the head of the Mexican Federal Executive Branch defended the importance of the country in the Mexico, United States and Canada Treaty (T-MEC).
“We are not going to fall into a provocation about which country is better, what is certain is that Mexico is respected and more so by our commercial partners, that is my role and that of all Mexicans […] we are a country with enormous wealth, with our problems that we are addressing and a very promising present and future,” emphasized the national leader.
“Mexico is a great country. They would like to have the cultural wealth that Mexico has, of the indigenous peoples […] Mexico will never be less, on the contrary, we are equal, different, yes,” indicated the former head of the Government of the capital of the Republic.
“The problems are different. Recently it was revealed that Canada also has a very serious problem with fentanyl consumption, and in some states and cities where consumption was liberalized, very serious problems have been generated,” said Sheinbaum Pardo.
“And in some states, cities, where consumption was liberalized, very serious problems have arisen, so there are problems with life functions due to opioid addiction, Mexico has them at a very low level,” said the president.
“A survey was recently done, not because there are no addiction problems in Mexico, there are and we are addressing them, but it has nothing to do with this consumption of fentanyl that exists in the United States and Canada, we are different,” added the Mexican president.
“This idea that one cannot be compared to another, yes, we’re different,” insisted the head of the Mexican Federal Executive Branch, who, however, noted that “we’re not less because of that, never.”

Shes got more balls then trudeau who was asked why not become the 51st state….. 4 years of trade wars it looks like.
Justin Trudeau looked desperate. Did you catch the Canadian ambassador’s remark? He said something along the lines of, “Our border is nothing like the situation at Mexico’s border.” It was a thinly veiled jab at Mexico, essentially calling them out on their security issues. It’s hard not to see this as the spark for Claudia Sheinbaum’s response. She couldn’t just let that slide—especially with the NYT report about cartel recruitment hanging in the air. Her speech feels like a calculated pushback, an attempt to control the narrative while defending Mexico’s reputation on an international stage. The question is, will it work, or did it just add fuel to the fire?
Its was a thinly veiled jab for sure my apologies. Thankfully one more year and Justin’s gone. Will Sheinbaum actions back fire IMO short term no long term yes. In the short term Donny will respect her actions and it was well played on her part. But Sheinbaum won’t be able to take the necessary actions to calm Donny. Drug trafficking and human trafficking are next level in Mexico. Canada has its own problems but we don’t have militant type mafias patrolling the streets. But is this even about Fentanyl or Immigration ?
Really comparing that third trashy country to Canada ? Mexico is less than Nigeria !
