The attackers unloaded their weapons from at least one vehicle, according to preliminary reports
During the night of November 30, an armed attack was recorded at the entrance to the municipality of Apaseo el Grande, in Guanajuato, which left a preliminary balance of eight people dead and at least two injured.
According to initial reports, an armed criminal cell unloaded their arsenal against the clients of several food establishments that were located in the area known as ‘Trébol de los Apaseos’.
Hours later it was confirmed that among the victims there were at least two members of the Fire Department, as well as a paramedic from the Guanajuato State Emergency System (SUEG).
Through its official Facebook account, the state Health Secretariat confirmed the death of Ricardo Eduardo López Ortega, who worked as a transfer paramedic assigned to the Cortázar sector.
For its part, the SUEG specified that López Ortega was an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) originally from the municipality of Juventino Rosas. “Lalo, you leave a big void in the SUEG, but above all in your family,” was the message that authorities of the Emergency System shared on the digital platform.

Likewise, the non-governmental organization Bomberos Veteranos de Celaya reported the death of combatants Ulises Ramírez Vázquez and Alejandro Ortega, who were hit by bullets during the attack.
Preliminary reports indicate that, in addition to Ulises, Alejandro and Ricardo Eduardo, Fernando Antonio “N”, Ángel Adrián “N” and Édgar “N” have been identified as victims. The names of the two remaining deceased remain reserved.
Witnesses of the massacre alerted security institutions through the 911 emergency system, which led to an intense operation by the National Guard, the State Public Security Forces (FSPE) and the Mexican Army. Later, personnel from the forensic services arrived at the site to collect the corresponding evidence.
According to unofficial versions, at least 20 spent firearm casings were found at the site.
At the time of this publication, the authorities have not reported any arrests related to the massacre, so far there are no clues to locate the alleged perpetrators.
Through her official X account, Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo stated that she had been aware of the events since the night of November 30. “A public condemnation is not enough when what we want is justice and that these events are not repeated, therefore we will find those responsible for this unfortunate event and we will continue to implement the new strategy. We reaffirm all the support to the municipality and the families of the victims,” wrote the governor.
Between the months of January and October 2024, the state of Guanajuato accumulated a total of 2,119 intentional homicides, of which 1,788 were committed with a firearm. With the figures available so far, April was consolidated as the most violent month in the state, with a record of 229 murders.
The deployment of thousands of military personnel has not stopped the attacks perpetrated by criminal groups
