The criminal group operated in San Nicolás, Apodaca, Cerro de la Independencia and Guadalupe; linked to recent homicides in San Nicolás.
The Peace Reconstruction Roundtable attributed the recent surge in homicides, which reached a national high in a single day this week, to an independent criminal group operating in several municipalities.
In response, authorities deployed a special operation to contain the violence and apprehend those responsible.
The criminal organization, whose identity wasn’t revealed, was identified as responsible for the five homicides recorded in a single day in San Nicolás de los Garza this week.
The Secretary of Public Security of Nuevo León, Gerardo Escamilla, announced the results of this operation carried out in the Independencia neighborhood.
“A few days ago, two incidents occurred that led to an increase in homicides in San Nicolás. According to intelligence forces from the State Police, the State Investigation Agency, and the Metropolitan Coordination Group, we were able to determine that it is an independent criminal group operating in the municipalities of San Nicolás, Apodaca, Guadalupe, and also in the Independencia hill area. This led to intelligence work by the State Police that resulted in the arrest of five members of this criminal group.”
The operation involved elements from the National Defense Secretariat, the National Guard, and the State Investigation Agency, who also seized at least four firearms and nearly 2,000 doses of narcotics.
The detainees were identified as:
Iván “N”, 36 years old
Víctor “N”, 42 years old
Raúl “N”, 51 years old
Diego “N”, 32 years old
Wendy “N”, 25 years old
Escamilla said that they are still awaiting search warrants to continue operations in the upper part of the Independencia neighborhood.
“We are awaiting technical search warrants, particularly for the homes in that sector, and we will continue to reinforce our efforts to counteract the violence that occurred at the beginning of the week.”
According to the State Secretary of Public Security, the criminal group primarily operated in drug trafficking.
