Hernán Bermúdez Requena was a fugitive from justice after an arrest warrant was issued against him last February.
Hernán Bermúdez Requena, former Secretary of Public Security of Tabasco and leader of the criminal organization known as La Barredora, was arrested in Paraguay, reported Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC).
Through his social media, the official indicated that the arrest was achieved after a joint operation led by the National Intelligence Center (CNI) and as part of President Claudia Sheinbaum’s “Zero Tolerance for Corruption” instruction.
Thanking Paraguayan authorities for their collaboration and support, García Harfuch stated that the participation of the Financial Intelligence Unit and the National Intelligence Center was essential in this operation.
Who is Hernán Bermúdez Requena?
Former Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) in Tabasco, who was a fugitive from justice after an arrest warrant was issued against him last February.
He was considered the leader of “La Barredora” and has an arrest warrant for the crimes of criminal association, extortion, and express kidnapping in Tabasco. He also had a Red Notice issued by Interpol Mexico on July 17, 2025.
The La Barredora criminal group has been linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel New Generation Cartel, which has expanded its presence to other states, including Tabasco, since last year.
