Preliminary reports indicate the arrest of Ever José González Bournes, also known as “El Pepe Águila” or “El Águila,” the alleged regional leader of the New Juárez Cartel (NCDJ), during a major operation in the state of Coahuila.
The operation took place on Federal Highway 40D, near the Laguna Norte bypass, where federal authorities arrested four people and seized an armored vehicle, high-powered weapons, and several cell phones.
During the operation, a white GMC Yukon Denali with factory-installed armor plating and license plates from the state of San Luis Potosí was seized, along with eight cell phones allegedly used for operational activities.
Regarding the weapons, authorities seized a Glock Model 25 .380 caliber pistol, a Colt .45 caliber pistol, a magazine with 13 .380 caliber cartridges, and another with eight .45 caliber cartridges.
According to preliminary reports, one of the detainees, identified as Esaú Hernández Cervantes, is actually Ever José González Bournes, alias “El Pepe Águila,” who was allegedly a fugitive and wanted by authorities in Chihuahua.
Also arrested were Jesús Adán Cruz Alvelais, Aylin Andrea Cruz Alvelais, and Isabel Guadalupe Perla Trujillo.
Unofficial sources indicate that “El Pepe Águila” operates in the Sierra Tarahumara region and in municipalities of the state of Sonora, and is considered a high-priority target due to his alleged involvement in various violent incidents.
It is also unofficially reported that there are outstanding arrest warrants against him in the state of Chihuahua, related to high-profile investigations, as well as legal proceedings in Sonora for alleged theft and dispossession of mines, in addition to a possible extradition process in coordination with U.S. authorities.
To date, authorities have not issued an official statement confirming the identity of the detainee or the charges against him.
