The Ministry of Public Security of Sinaloa confirmed that 16 people, out of the 66 who were taken captive on Friday, March 22, have returned to their homes.
This return leaves eight people still not located.
Of the 16 recently freed individuals, 12 are adults and 4 are minors. This group of liberated people joins the 42 who were freed on Saturday, March 23.
The location of these individuals was confirmed by security officials, who found them at their homes, indicating that they had returned on their own accord.
On Friday, March 22, around 4:00 am, reports began surfacing of people being forcefully taken from their homes, including children, at different locations in the city of Culiacán.
According to state information revealed by Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, a total of 66 people were taken captive.
Almost 24 hours later, during the early hours of Saturday, March 23, the first freed individuals were found near a convenience store in the Barrancos sector. From that point, more individuals started to appear and some returned to their homes on their own.
In order to locate the individuals, 600 special forces personnel were deployed to the city on Friday, March 22. There have been no details made public or any updates on arrests related to the abduction of these people.
According to the Sinaloa Public Security Secretariat, joint operations between local authorities and federal forces will continue in order to locate the remaining eight individuals who have not yet been found.
