As a result of an anti-narcotics operation deployed in the municipality of Kanasín, Yucatán, state and federal authorities managed to arrest 13 people (nine men and four women) who were allegedly functioning as drug dealers in the region.
The Public Security Secretariat (SSP) of Yucatan announced this Sunday that simultaneous raids were carried out in three properties located in the Mulchechén subdivision, with the aim of inhibiting drug dealing activities.
This was how elements of the Mexican Army, the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar), the National Guard, and the state SSP arrived at 37-A x 64 street to inspect the homes where it was suspected that illicit substances were being stored for their respective sale and distribution.
In the property marked with the number 478, two subjects identified as Ángel Adrián V.R. and Ángel Emanuel H.A. were arrested, who would be implicated in crimes against health, as doses of marijuana, methamphetamine, cash, and a pair of scales were seized.
Later, the police officers moved to residence 480, where they detained two women and one man named Yareli Yazumi M.A., Elsy Margarita A.T., and Ariel M.D. Also, packages with cocaine, marijuana and methamphetamine were found.
In the third and final property, marked with number 484, the same type of drugs were seized and another eight people were arrested, identified as Mili Virginia and Perla Alejandra A. R., as well as Aldo Noé A. R., Óscar P. J., Ángel J. G., Jesús Hedrex H. C., Héctor Antonio K. R. and Jesús Adiel M. A.
“The detained individuals and the confiscated product were brought before the control judge who issued the search warrants,” the SSP stated in a social media post.
However, the ages and places of origin of the 13 arrested were not disclosed, nor was there information about the criminal group they belonged to. As for the seized objects, the exact amount of narcotics stored in the houses was not mentioned.
Intelligence reports indicate that the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) is one of the criminal organizations with the greatest presence in the state governed by Mauricio Vila Dosal.
However, a report published by El Sol de Yucatán mentions that the “four letter cartel” (led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, alias ‘El Mencho’) maintains a dispute with three other groups in the state: Sinaloa Cartel, Gulf Cartel, and Los Pelones.
While the CJNG maintains its operations in Progreso, Mérida, Ixil, Río Lagartos, Chemax and Tizimín. The Sinaloa Cartel in Panabá under the command of Carlos Alberto Torres, alias ‘El Chore’, and Héctor Elías Flores, alias ‘El 15’ (the latter was arrested in May 2023).
The Yucatán is a strategic area for drug trafficking, but it is also a key location for money laundering and importing illegal precursors. This has led to different criminal groups establishing cells in the region to expand their businesses.
