Four individuals identified as suspected of trafficking cocaine and other controlled substances from Mexico to Canada have been added to the list of targets of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
This is about Mexicans Eduardo Carvajal and John Joe Soto, as well as Esteban Sinhue Mercado and Corell Carbajal García, originally from California.
Investigations by the Central District Attorney’s Office in California, framed within the so-called ‘Operation Dead Hand‘, suggest that these four men would be part of an international criminal network in collaboration with the Montreal Mafia, a Canadian group led by the Rizzuto family.
Eduardo Carvajal, originally from Guadalajara, Jalisco, is identified as a possible high-level trafficker responsible for coordinating the shipment of hundreds of kilograms of cocaine from Mexico to Los Angeles, from where it is apparently distributed to Canada and other regions of the US.
About John Joe Soto, the California District Attorney’s Office says that he would be the right-hand man of Jesus Ruiz Sandoval Jr., one of the apparent leaders of the criminal network who is currently a fugitive and of whom little is known beyond his name.
Sandoval, Carvajal, and Soto, according to the records, would have acted as suppliers for a large organization led by Robert Scoppa, a wholesale drug buyer linked to the Italian Mafia who appeared before the Montreal Court on January 30, 2024, and is facing an extradition order to the United States.
Although the investigations include Corell Carbajal García and Esteban Sinhue Mercado as possible members of this group, the authorities have not provided details about the specific activities they may have engaged in.
The four individuals currently being sought by the FBI, along with Scoppa, are part of the accused who face a total of 18 criminal charges in the case brought by the U.S. government against Sandoval Jr.
Presumably, the operations of this group were possible through Canadian merchants and transporters who made continuous and short trips to Los Angeles, California.
There, they collected vast shipments of cocaine and methamphetamine, which were later sent to Canada through tractor-trailers with semi-trailers designed to withstand long journeys.
