The capture of several individuals who apparently would be members of the Northeast Cartel in the municipality of Paraíso in Tabasco caused a strong operation by security members from the three levels of government to prevent violent actions.
The events were made known by the Municipality of the entity during Wednesday, January 24th, and according to the first reports from the authorities, the four individuals who were arrested could be part of the mentioned criminal group.
It was during the morning hours of Wednesday when reports emerged about the presence of “suspicious” men who were traveling on the road to Dos Bocas. At first, members of the Municipal Public Safety force arrived and noticed that one of the individuals was wearing clothing that referenced the Northeast Cartel.
The above resulted in insured men being taken to police holding cells, and for this reason, support was sought from the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar).
In the face of this situation, authorities of the Municipal Police requested the support of personnel from the Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR) and the State Police; who implemented a strong operation to safeguard the facilities of the Department of Public Safety,” the Municipality of Paraíso detailed in a statement.
The arrested men were brought before the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), where the necessary investigations will take place. No injuries were reported from the actions taken in the area. The names and photographs of the arrested individuals were not revealed.
It is worth remembering that it is not the first time that material referring to the Northeast Cartel has been found in Tabasco, as in October 2022 a threatening message was found, with the group’s initials in the area.

Sincerely, Commander Mugre (SIC)”, the message found on that occasion said.
But in more recent reports, on January 8, 2023, it was reported that the commander of the 30th Military Zone, Héctor Francisco Morán, denied the presence of drug cartels and organized crime in the region.
Morán González ruled out the presence of organized crime groups in Tabasco territory. He also emphasized that criminal acts in the area are carried out by groups that identify themselves with the name of other larger criminal organizations, such as the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) and the Northeast Cartel.
“I have always been under the understanding that we do not have cartels here. They are actually a group of vandals who are the same people. Before, they were called La Barredora, then they started calling themselves the Northeast Cartel when it was no longer convenient to be associated with La Barredora. And then they began calling themselves the Jalisco Cartel,” Morán commented a few days ago.
He highlighted that these are local groups. However, military documents revealed after the hack suffered by the Army by the Guacamaya group revealed that a criminal cell linked to the CJNG, a cartel led by Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, also known as “El Mencho,” does operate in Tabasco. This group has been identified as “La Barredora.”
