A group from organized crime threw two dismembered bodies on the Caborca- Desemboque road, which were found during the morning of this Saturday, April 13.
According to the State Security Board, the first lines of investigation point to these events being linked to organized crime groups in Caborca, although the names of the criminal groups involved were not specified.
State authorities mentioned that through C5, they were informed about the discovery of two male bodies at around 6:30 am this Saturday morning.

Upon arriving at the scene, the authorities located “used tacks for puncturing tires on the asphalt, without any affected vehicles being registered by these objects”.
The corresponding investigation is being carried out by the Public Ministry, in addition to an operation to safeguard the integrity of citizens and achieve the locating of possible perpetrators of this incident.
Videos that are circulating on social media, allegedly captured by drivers passing through the area, show bodies on the pavement.
The rise of the New Independent Cartel of Sonora represents a challenge to the dominance of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, specifically against the faction known as “Los Chapitos,” led by the sons of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán.
The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) considers that the Sinaloa Cartel has a presence in 19 out of the 32 states in the country.
This new criminal group, reported in the first few months of the current year, emerges as a significant contender in the state of Sonora, a critical area for drug trafficking operations.
This new criminal organization is composed of former allies of the Sinaloa Cartel, including Los Cazadores, Los Paredes, and Los Salazar.
According to the analysis of security expert Robert J. Bunker, cited by Daily Star, this situation evidences a fragmentation and potential weakening of Los Chapitos in Sonora, a state also disputed by the Caborca Cartel.
Bunker highlighted that this phenomenon benefits the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), the main adversary of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, by suggesting possible alliances or support between the CJNG and the New Independent Cartel of Sonora.

“Anything that can weaken the Sinaloa Cartel will be seen as a benefit for the CJNG. This suggests that the CJNG has already made approaches to the New Independent Cartel of Sonora and is likely allied with it, or at least will try to provide it with some support,” Robert J. Bunker emphasized.
The current structure and leadership of the New Independent Cartel of Sonora remain relatively unknown, with key figures like Adán Salazar Zamorano and Gildardo Domínguez Soto, also known as ‘El Copechi’, facing justice in the United States and Mexico, respectively.
Despite these internal challenges and the emergence of new criminal groups, the Sinaloa Cartel continues to be one of the most expansive criminal organizations, with a network of 26,000 members operating globally, according to a DEA report presented by deputy director George Papadopoulos in July 2023.
On April 10, authorities in the United States announced the deployment of an operation they consider the “next phase” against the Sinaloa Cartel.

Operation Plaza Spike intends to reveal the names of the so-called “plaza bosses” of individuals who have control over a certain area, with Sergio Valenzuela Valenzuela, also known as El Gio or Gigio, being one of the main targets of the authorities as they have identified him as a criminal leader in Nogales, Sonora.
Sergio Valenzuela operates under the orders of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, considered the top leader of the Sinaloa Cartel.
