During the mid-2000s, the leader of the Sinaloa Cartel, Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, was close to being apprehended by authorities, who had him surrounded and were only half an hour away from his location. That’s why they made a call to his associate to ask for a bribe.
According to journalist Anabel Hernández, a member of the Sedena asked Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada for the sum of 250,000 dollars in exchange for not carrying out an operation that was already confirmed to be successful. Immediately, they received a response from the native of El Álamo.
On one occasion, through another military friend of ‘Rey’, they found out that an Army command was only half an hour away from Guzmán Loera, following his steps. ‘Rey’ immediately notified ‘El Mayo’, who asked him to call back in 10 or 15 minutes. He did so, and it was true that ‘El Chapo’ was in the exact location where they had him surrounded. The military asked for 250 thousand dollars to abort the operation, and ‘El Mayo’ ordered ‘Rey’ to pay it,” journalist Anabel Hernández narrated in her book ‘El Traidor’.

Through Jesus Zambada García, ‘King’, who was the financial operator of the Sinaloa Cartel, it was that the military commander received the requested money, to which he responded “everything will be fine, nothing will happen,” and then began to withdraw.
“Sir, I will send you the money right now, so don’t worry about it,” promised ‘Rey’ to the military officer. “Don’t worry, everything will be alright, nothing will happen,” responded the corrupt captain,” wrote Anabel Hernández.

Guzmán Loera was one of the most wanted members of the Sinaloa Cartel in Mexico, while Ismael ‘El Mayo’ Zambada leisurely strolled through different parts of the country and Canada, maintaining a low profile without extravagances, unlike his partner.
“While ‘El Chapo’ was drawing all the attention of the Mexican government, making him seem like public enemy number 1, ‘El Mayo’ was taking precautions. He constantly entered and left Mexico, dividing his time between Coahuila and Durango. However, he also spent some time in Quebec, the beautiful Canadian city located by the Saint Lawrence River.” This is read in the work.

Ismael Mario enjoyed the city of Quebec for conducting business meetings and vacationing with his family, while ‘El Chapo’ spent his time hiding in the mountains of Sinaloa and Durango.
“While ‘El Chapo’ fled, ‘El Mayo’ enjoyed calm business and family meetings there,” reported Anabel Hernandez.
