An operation led by officers from the Municipal Public Safety Secretariat (SSPM) dealt a major blow against one of the criminal groups operating in Juárez. In the last few hours, authorities arrested the alleged leader of the criminal group *Artistas Asesinos*—known as the “Double A’s.”
Several people were with him, and they were armed. Luis Carlos Ortega, you have the details: who is “El Tampico,” and what are the authorities saying? We’re listening.
That’s right, Edgar. Good evening—and good evening to everyone tuning in to watch us. Officers from the Municipal Public Security Secretariat detained Carlos Jesús G.L., known as “El Tampico,” a criminal figure associated with the *Artistas Asesinos*. This followed an operation carried out in the Hacienda de las Torres neighborhood, during which 12 other individuals were also detained in possession of firearms.
The intervention took place at the intersection of Arbolera and Pómera streets, after agents spotted a group of people consuming alcoholic beverages inside a blue 2016 Jetta sedan. Subsequently, they located a .23-caliber assault rifle containing 27 rounds of ammunition inside the vehicle.
Two other individuals then emerged from a nearby residence carrying 9mm pistols; consequently, these individuals were also detained. Among those involved were the aforementioned Carlos Jesús—alias “El Tampico,” leader of the Double A’s—along with Jonathan Ismael S.R., María Guadalupe M., Abigail P.M., Manuel Daniel T.P., Rubén P.G., Rubén de Jesús P.M., José Manuel R.B., Gerardo S.B., Abelán P.G., and Juan Enrique F.P., in addition to two minors.
Let’s take a look at the graphic, and I’ll provide a few more details. The audio wasn’t coming through very clearly just now. We are making a lot of adjustments due to the volume of incoming information; all of this is very recent news. Carlos Jesús G.J.—”El Tampico”—was detained with weapons in the Hacienda de las Torres neighborhood.
He is the ringleader of this criminal group. They were in possession of an assault rifle, two handguns (9mm caliber), and ammunition. Furthermore, let’s look at the rest of the images. These individuals were apprehended following a report regarding a disturbance—specifically, people causing a public disturbance outside a private residence.
The images are right there. They were transporting beer, and there they are. Regrettably, those involved are young people—including two teenagers among the detainees. Authorities state that “El Tampico” had been a wanted fugitive for quite some time.
As you know, for several years now, the *Artistas Asesinos*—or “A”—have been responsible for the ongoing turf war and drug trafficking in the region. There have been murders, and even a specific faction within the gang that harvested organs from its victims.
They subjected their victims to torture and rituals dedicated to *Santa Muerte* (Holy Death), according to statements made at the time by the Chihuahua State Attorney’s Office for the Northern Zone.
It remains to be seen what further details will emerge once authorities have fully processed this case and referred it to the appropriate judicial bodies for prosecution regarding the crimes with which the suspects are charged.
