Federal authorities arrested a Chinese citizen, identified as Zhi Dong Zhang, near the Cuajimalpa neighborhood in Mexico City.
The detained man “has been accused of forming alliances with the Sinaloa Cartel and the CJNG for trafficking activities” and has an arrest warrant for extradition to the United States.
The arrest, in which elements of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC), the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), the Secretariat of the Navy (Semar) and the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena) participated, was carried out due to Dong Zhang’s probable responsibility in the crimes of criminal association to import, international distribution of cocaine and money laundering.
According to the SSPC, which reported on the arrest through a statement, “it is known that Zhi Dong Zhang is responsible for the export, transportation and distribution of more than 1,000 kg of cocaine, 1,800 kg of fentanyl and more than 600 kg of methamphetamines. Likewise, it is known that he has illegally operated more than 150 million dollars annually in drug profits.”
Omar Garcia Harfuch, head of the SSPC, reported that “with this arrest, millions of doses of drugs are prevented from reaching the streets and financial resources for criminal structures.”
