Durango bus arrest leads to meth sentence

Contacto Hoy reports that Mexican authorities arrested a man identified as Guadalupe “N” while he was traveling on a passenger bus in Durango with 8 kilograms and 280 grams of alleged methamphetamine. The report says the arrest occurred on the Durango-Yerbaniz highway, near kilometer 16+000, after officers stopped the bus. Contacto Hoy attributes the information to Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (FGR).

According to Contacto Hoy’s account of the FGR statement, authorities found eight packages wrapped in brown tape during the inspection. The man and the packages were placed at the disposal of the federal public prosecutor, who conducted the corresponding proceedings and later brought the case before a judge in Mexico’s accusatory criminal system. The source describes Guadalupe “N” as having been convicted of transporting methamphetamine, but it does not provide his full name.

Contacto Hoy reports that the FGR obtained a sentence of six years and eight months in prison, along with a fine equivalent to 67 days, through an abbreviated proceeding. The report says he will serve the sentence at Federal Social Rehabilitation Center No. 7 in Guadalupe Victoria, Durango. The FGR also said it would continue investigating and prosecuting federal offenses, according to the account published by Contacto Hoy.
