Three alleged La Unión Tepito operators arrested in Iztapalapa
Mexico City authorities arrested three people they identify as alleged operators of a La Unión Tepito faction in Iztapalapa and said they seized firearms, suspected drugs and two properties. The detainees’ legal status remains pending.
Authorities in Mexico City arrested three alleged operators of a faction linked to La Unión Tepito during an operation in the Santa Cruz Meyehualco neighborhood of Iztapalapa, officials said. The detainees were identified as Román Martín Reséndiz Escárcega, 63; Norma Alejandra Pérez González, 61; and Jonathan Obrayan Reséndiz Pérez, 41. According to El Financiero, authorities also secured firearms, several doses of suspected drugs and two properties allegedly used to store and sell weapons and narcotics.
The operation was carried out by the Mexico City Secretariat of Citizen Security (SSC) and the capital’s Attorney General’s Office, with support from the National Guard and the Navy. Authorities said the three people were allegedly part of the same cell, which investigators link to the purchase, sale and distribution of drugs and the sale of firearms. The arrests and seizures followed intelligence and investigative work aimed at identifying and dismantling groups considered generators of violence in the capital.
El Financiero reported that the detainees and seized items were placed at the disposal of the relevant authorities, which will determine their legal status. The SSC said it would continue coordinated operations against criminal groups and to strengthen security for Mexico City residents.
