Judge orders alleged CJNG operator El Tanque held at El Altiplano
El Financiero reported that a federal judge ordered Iván Cazarín Molina, known as “El Tanque,” to stand trial over his alleged links to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office accused him of possible participation in organized crime, kidnapping, possession of firearms reserved for the armed forces and drug-related offenses.
According to El Financiero, the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office and its Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime presented evidence that the judge considered sufficient to impose the order. The judge also upheld preventive detention at the maximum-security El Altiplano prison in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexico, and gave prosecutors four months to complete their investigation.
Cazarín was arrested in Zapopan, Jalisco, in an operation coordinated by the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection, the source said. Investigators identified him as a possible CJNG member with activities in Veracruz, Tabasco, Oaxaca and Puebla. El Financiero reported that intelligence work also linked him, as an investigative allegation, to homicide, extortion, unlawful deprivation of liberty, fuel theft, money laundering and drug trafficking.
The court action is an accusation and a procedural step, not a final judgment. The source did not report a trial date or additional details about the evidence presented in court.
