Alleged Los Cromos leader arrested in Guadalajara
Tribuna Sonora reported that Iván N., known as El Cromo, was arrested in Guadalajara after an intelligence operation. Authorities allege he leads a CJNG-linked group active in Oaxaca; the broader Operation Sable has accumulated more than 250 arrests.
Iván N., known as El Cromo, was arrested in Guadalajara after an intelligence operation that tracked him from Oaxaca and Chiapas. According to Tribuna Sonora, federal authorities identify him as one of the leaders of Los Cromos, a group allegedly linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel and active in Oaxaca's Isthmus of Tehuantepec.
The outlet reported that he faced two aggravated-homicide arrest warrants involving three victims, plus a third warrant for the same offense relating to 2020. Intelligence records also linked him to three aggravated-homicide investigations concerning events in 2018, 2020 and 2024, involving four victims. Authorities had offered up to 2 million pesos for information leading to his capture.
The Security Cabinet said the arrest was carried out without gunfire. Federal security and intelligence agencies worked with the Oaxaca prosecutor's office and authorities in Oaxaca and Jalisco. Iván N. was flown to Mexico City aboard a Navy aircraft and taken before the federal organized-crime prosecutor's office, FEMDO.
Authorities accuse Los Cromos of extortion, local drug sales, kidnapping, homicide, and drug and arms trafficking. The report identifies its alleged operating area as Juchitán de Zaragoza, Salina Cruz, Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, Ciudad Ixtepec and Matías Romero. The group is also under investigation over its alleged involvement in the killing of a four-year-old girl in Juchitán.
The arrest forms part of Operation Sable, which grew out of intelligence work begun in 2025. Tribuna Sonora reported that the wider operation has accumulated more than 250 arrests, including alleged commanders, financial operators and former Juchitán mayor Miguel Sánchez Altamirano, known as Quetu.
Sánchez Altamirano was arrested on September 23. Investigators allege he participated in aggravated extortion and schemes to protect criminal organizations, including an alleged alliance with Los Cromos.
