What happened
Publimetro México reported that Sharon Flores and her young son were killed in Morelos on November 1. Attackers reportedly fled on an electric bicycle; no arrests were confirmed in the report.
Reporting and context
A 25-year-old woman and her young son were shot dead in Mexico City's Morelos neighborhood on November 1 while they were out collecting holiday treats, according to Publimetro México. The outlet identified the woman as Sharon Flores, known as "La Pelos," and said reports differed on whether her son was three or four years old.
Publimetro México reported that they were traveling on a scooter near the intersection of Peñón and Tenochtitlán streets in the Cuauhtémoc borough when gunmen opened fire. Initial accounts said the attackers fled on an electric bicycle. The boy was wearing a costume and accompanying his mother to pedir calaverita, the seasonal custom of asking for treats around Halloween and Day of the Dead.
Neighbors called emergency services after hearing the shots. Police found both victims wounded, and they were taken to Balbuena Hospital, where medical personnel confirmed their deaths from gunshot wounds, the report said.
The outlet cited journalist Carlos Jiménez's reporting linking Flores to alleged extortion of merchants for La Unión Tepito. Those allegations dated to July 2026 and concerned businesses in the Cuauhtémoc and Venustiano Carranza boroughs. The accounts accused her and two women known as "La Piojosa" and "La Nicole" of demanding protection payments and threatening or assaulting merchants who refused. These were reported allegations; the article did not establish a motive for the killings.
Police notified prosecutors, and investigators were reviewing nearby surveillance cameras to reconstruct the attackers' escape route. No arrests had been confirmed at the time of Publimetro's report.
