Suspected illicit gasoline found at Tecate house
Original reporting: Punto Norte
What happened
Punto Norte reports that state police and soldiers secured a Tecate property after spotting fuel containers during the Unidos por Tecate operation. Federal prosecutors were notified to arrange legal entry and continue investigating.
Reporting and context
State police and soldiers found more than 300 liters of suspected illicit gasoline at a house in the El Hongo area of Tecate, according to Punto Norte, citing Baja California’s Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat.
The discovery occurred during “Unidos por Tecate,” an operation launched after a wave of violence in the city in recent weeks. Officers from the State Citizen Security Force, accompanied by Defense Ministry personnel, were patrolling México Street in the Luis Echeverría neighborhood when they spotted plastic containers holding liquid inside a property.
Punto Norte reported that officers identified eight containers: six yellow vessels with a capacity of 20 liters each and two blue drums with a capacity of 200 liters each. A transparent hose was also present. One container had no lid, allowing officers to confirm that it held fuel.
The outlet’s headline gives the amount as 320 liters, while its account describes more than 300 liters. The listed container capacities describe their size, rather than how much fuel each held.
Officers secured the site and notified the federal Attorney General’s Office (FGR), which was to handle the legal process needed to enter the property and continue the investigation, the state secretariat said.
