Reporting and context
Oaxaca prosecutors arrested a woman known as “Na Shio Terán” in connection with the killing of a man in San Pedro Tapanatepec on May 30, 2023, according to Hoy Tamaulipas. She is the mother of Iván “N,” known as “El Cromo” or “Comandante Cromo,” whom authorities identify as an alleged leader of Los Cromos, a criminal group linked to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.
Citing the Oaxaca state prosecutor’s office, the outlet reported that the victim was shot in the Cantarranas neighborhood. The woman is under investigation for aggravated homicide and was brought before prosecutors to determine her legal status and continue the investigation.
The arrest comes amid investigations into Los Cromos’ alleged involvement in killings, extortion, kidnappings and trafficking in drugs and weapons across Oaxaca’s Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The federal Security Cabinet has linked the group to criminal activity in Juchitán, Santo Domingo Tehuantepec, Salina Cruz, Ciudad Ixtepec and Matías Romero.
Hoy Tamaulipas reported that Iván “N” was arrested in Guadalajara, Jalisco, in October. He had three outstanding arrest warrants for aggravated homicide, and authorities had offered up to 2 million pesos for information leading to his location.
The investigations have also reached municipal officials. The outlet cited former Juchitán mayor Miguel Sánchez Altamirano, who was arrested and placed under criminal proceedings over alleged extortion and links to the organization. Oaxaca prosecutors continue investigating the 2023 killing and the possible involvement of other people.
