Federal forces found an underground arsenal containing 69 firearms, 6,498 rounds of ammunition and tactical equipment in Rosario, Sinaloa, Noroeste Seguridad reports.
The discovery was made Sunday, Sept. 13, during a joint ground and air operation, according to information issued by federal authorities. Soldiers and National Guard personnel were patrolling a dirt road when they detected the ends of five plastic drums partially buried in the ground. After inspecting the containers, authorities seized a .50-caliber Barrett rifle, two machine guns and 66 long guns.
The seizure also included 145 magazines and 58 ballistic plates, Noroeste Seguridad reports. The weapons and equipment were placed at the disposal of the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, or FGR, which will open an investigation and determine potential responsibility. The report did not identify any suspects or a specific criminal organization in connection with the arsenal.
