Gunfire damages Elvis Guerra’s home in Oaxaca
Jornada Baja California reports that two people fired at the Juchitán home of designer and muxe poet Elvis Guerra. Oaxaca’s prosecutor’s office says the attack was intended to extort him and that investigators identified those responsible.
Two people opened fire Friday night on the home of Juchitán designer, poet and muxe community member Elvis Guerra, according to security sources cited by Jornada Baja California. Guerra, a Zapotec creator, designed the garment worn by President Claudia Sheinbaum during the Sept. 15 Independence Day ceremony.
The attack occurred at about 10 p.m. in the Ninth Section of Juchitán de Zaragoza, in Oaxaca’s Isthmus of Tehuantepec region. A man and a woman reportedly fired at the house on Callejón Enrique Jiménez. State police found damage to the facade; Guerra had inaugurated an event hall only 24 hours earlier.
Jornada Baja California reported that the Oaxaca state prosecutor’s office opened an investigation and said it had identified those responsible. The office said the attack was intended to extort Guerra. Investigators found three spent shell casings at the scene and obtained images of the alleged attackers, described as a man and a woman. Authorities’ account and the extortion motive remain attributed to the prosecutor’s office.
