Two arrested in Jalisco over alleged extortion of Tabasco meat businesses
Tribuna Sonora reports that authorities arrested two men in Guadalajara who are allegedly linked to a criminal network accused of extorting 77 meat-sector branches in Tabasco; authorities say eight people have now been detained in the case.
Authorities in Jalisco arrested two men identified by the aliases “El Fiera” and “El Coreano” in connection with an investigation into alleged extortion targeting the meat sector in Tabasco, Tribuna Sonora reported.
Mario “N,” known as “El Fiera,” and Juvenal “N,” known as “El Coreano,” were detained in Guadalajara as part of Mexico’s National Strategy against Extortion, according to the report. Authorities said both men had arrest warrants for aggravated extortion, homicide and criminal association. They are allegedly linked to a criminal organization that used social media and other internet platforms to threaten or demand payments from 77 meat-sector branches in Tabasco.
The arrests took place in Jalisco, while the cell they are accused of belonging to allegedly operated in Tabasco. The announcement was made by Omar García Harfuch, head of the federal Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection. Authorities said the operation brings to eight the number of people detained in connection with the network. Federal forces and security and justice agencies from the federal government and Tabasco participated in locating and arresting the two suspects.
