Sheinbaum says Ojeda is not hiding
President Claudia Sheinbaum said retired Adm. José Rafael Ojeda is not hiding or refusing to testify in a case involving alleged fiscal fuel theft linked to his political relatives. The FGR is reviewing a defense request to call him as a witness, while Sheinbaum said there is no investigation or direct criminal accusation against him.
President Claudia Sheinbaum said Friday that retired Adm. José Rafael Ojeda Durán is not hiding and has not refused to testify in a case involving alleged “fiscal huachicol” linked to his political relatives, according to Tribuna Sonora.
Sheinbaum said the Attorney General's Office, or FGR, is reviewing a defense request to call Ojeda as a witness. The request was made by lawyers for former rear admiral Fernando Farías Laguna at a hearing on Aug. 28, 2026. The FGR told Judge Alejandra Ramírez that Ojeda had not been located, according to attorney Epigmenio Mendieta, as cited by the report. Sheinbaum said there is no investigation or direct criminal accusation against Ojeda and that he would cooperate with the established judicial process.
Tribuna Sonora reported that Sheinbaum also said Ojeda no longer serves as a federal government adviser after completing his term as secretary. Asked about a reported monthly payment of 150,000 pesos, she said retired Defense and Navy personnel receive pensions based on their active-duty rank, under each institution's internal rules. Sheinbaum said the judiciary will determine how any testimony is handled.
