El Cris sentenced to 41 years in organized-crime case
ZETA reports prison terms of 41 years for El Cris and 26 for El Chepe.
A federal judge sentenced Marco Antonio García Simental, also known as Mario Alberto Rivera López and El Cris, to 41 years in prison, ZETA reported, citing Mexico's Attorney General's Office.
According to ZETA, the convictions cover organized crime, money laundering, carrying a firearm reserved for the armed forces, possession of ammunition and attempted homicide. The report said the investigation dates to 2004.
ZETA reported that the FGR announced the outcome on September 14, 2026. The agency also reported a 26-year prison sentence for José Barraza Benítez, known as El Chepe, for organized crime and possession of a firearm and ammunition reserved for the armed forces.
The outlet identified García Simental as a member of the Arellano Félix organization and an older brother of the figure known as El Teo. ZETA also said García Simental received a sentence in a separate criminal case in 2025. That earlier case is distinct from the 41-year term described in this report.
