Suspected extortionist arrested in Reynosa truck-demand case

Hoy Tamaulipas reports that authorities in Reynosa, Tamaulipas, arrested Juan Esteban “N,” 31, in connection with an alleged extortion attempt against a local family. According to Hoy Tamaulipas, the suspect allegedly threatened the family and demanded a white, four-door Ford F-150. The report says the man allegedly claimed during a telephone call to belong to a criminal group, but that claim remains an allegation described in the complaint rather than an established fact.
Hoy Tamaulipas reports that the family provided private information about its members during the call and was threatened with harm if the vehicle was not handed over. The family then filed a complaint with the Tamaulipas Attorney General’s Office, prompting investigative officers to arrange surveillance at the Soriana San Fernando parking lot near the Benito Juárez neighborhood. Authorities reportedly selected that location because the threatened vehicle handoff was expected to occur there.
According to the source account, officers intervened when the victim arrived and detained the suspect. The report identifies Juan Esteban “N” as originally from Oaxaca and as residing in Reynosa’s San Valentín neighborhood. Hoy Tamaulipas says the detainee and the vehicle were placed at the disposal of the Public Ministry and the relevant investigative unit.
