July diesel arrest led FGR to 59 million liters in Guanajuato
An investigation that began with a driver carrying 33,000 liters of diesel led to three searches and more than 59 million liters of fuel, according to the FGR account reported by Infobae.
A truck driver's July arrest led federal investigators to more than 59 million liters of fuel in Guanajuato, according to an FGR account reported by Infobae. Prosecutors are investigating possible fuel and tax offenses while checking the product's ownership and origin.
The investigation began on July 3, 2026, when the driver was detained while unloading a tanker at a gas station in San Luis de la Paz. The FGR said he could not document the origin and traceability of the 33,000 liters of diesel he was carrying.
Investigators subsequently searched that station, an LP gas facility in Dolores Hidalgo belonging to the same owner, and a property in La Fragua, San José Iturbide. The federal account places the reported fuel volume at the third site.
Infobae reported that the La Fragua search also yielded 10 large cylindrical storage tanks, seven transport vehicles and a box of accounting records. Army, National Guard and Guanajuato state security personnel participated in the searches.
Guanajuato Security Secretary Juan Mauro González Martínez said the discovery resulted from an investigation. The fuel remains under guard as technical measurements continue.
At publication, the report had not identified the company owning the San José Iturbide property. No additional arrests had been reported beyond the driver detained in July. Prosecutors are examining the seized vehicles, accounting documents and invoices to establish responsibility.
For scale, Infobae compared the Guanajuato volume with the 15.48 million liters seized in 129 rail tank cars in Coahuila in July 2025. The current reported volume is about 3.8 times that amount.
