59 million liters of suspected fuel seized in Guanajuato
A federal-jurisdiction search in San José Iturbide led to the reported seizure of about 59 million liters of suspected fuel, while authorities continue determining its quantity, origin and legal status.
Authorities in Guanajuato seized about 59 million liters of suspected illegally handled fuel during a search in La Fragua, a community in the municipality of San José Iturbide, Azteca Noticias reported. The operation involved suspected diesel, regular gasoline and premium gasoline, and was conducted as part of an investigation into possible crimes involving the storage, distribution and other handling of hydrocarbons.
According to Azteca Noticias and information attributed to the state government, a federal judge authorized the search. Authorities found 10 storage tanks, additional containers, three cargo units and documents connected to the investigation. The reported volume is roughly equivalent to 371,000 barrels used by Pemex, although the final quantity, composition, origin and legal status of the fuel remain subject to technical and legal determinations.
Guanajuato Security Secretary Juan Mauro González Martínez said the work to measure, identify and manage the product would continue under specialized supervision. The seizure remains part of an ongoing investigation and does not by itself establish criminal responsibility. Authorities are also examining possible links between large-scale fuel operations and financing for criminal structures, while maintaining due-process and presumption-of-innocence safeguards.
