Reporting and context

Federal personnel arrested Bojun, a 41-year-old man known as “El Chino,” during a search of a property in Mexico City’s Miguel Hidalgo borough, Punto Norte reported. The federal Security and Citizen Protection Secretariat identified him as an alleged leader of a network involved in money laundering and weapons trafficking.

Authorities reported seizing $920,000 and 26,976,000 pesos in cash during the raid. Punto Norte described the combined amount as nearly 44 million pesos. Officials also reported finding immigration credentials and other documents.

The reported seizure included cellphones, drug doses, a digital gram scale and a banknote-counting machine. Watches, ammunition and vehicles were also listed by the security secretariat, according to the outlet.

The secretariat said the alleged network operated in central Mexico City, Tijuana in Baja California, and Cancún in Quintana Roo. It described the arrest as the result of intelligence and investigative work directed at organized crime’s financial structures.

Investigators carried out fixed and mobile surveillance and followed movements linked to the property, according to the official account cited by Punto Norte. They presented evidence to a judge, who authorized the search warrant for the Miguel Hidalgo address.

The operation involved personnel from the federal security secretariat and the Navy’s Central Naval Region. The federal Attorney General’s Office and Mexico City’s Citizen Security Secretariat also took part.

Authorities said Bojun was informed of his legal rights. He and the seized items and funds were turned over to federal prosecutors, who were to determine his legal status and continue the investigation, the outlet reported.
