Navy says 2026 cocaine seizures surpass 2025 total

The Mexican Navy says it seized 37,855.48 kilograms of suspected cocaine between January 1 and September 10, surpassing its total for all of 2025, according to a September 15 report by Entorno Informativo Sonora.
The outlet cited the Navy Secretariat, known as Semar, which put last year's seizures at 25,713 kilograms. Semar reported an increase of 12,142.48 kilograms, or 47.2 percent. The comparison is between this year's total through September 10 and the full previous calendar year.
The figures cover surveillance, patrol and maritime interdiction operations along Mexico's coasts and in national waters. Semar said ships, aircraft and naval infantry took part in detecting and intercepting vessels suspected of carrying illicit cargo.
The agency also reported 86 arrests during the operations. Those detained were referred to the relevant authorities to determine their legal status. Its equipment seizure figures listed 26 boats, a low-profile vessel and 54 outboard motors.
According to Entorno Informativo Sonora, Semar said the operations aim to disrupt maritime drug-trafficking routes and the organizations using them. The agency described the seizures as a setback to those groups' logistics and said it would maintain patrols in waters used for illicit shipments.
