Transport operators in Mártir de Cuilapan and Juan R. Escudero suspended service after violence was reported Thursday in Mochitlán and Quechultenango, according to El Diario de Juárez. The report said the clashes involved federal and state security forces and residents in the two Guerrero communities.
Transport bases serving Quechultenango and Mochitlán were operating normally, while service in Tixtla and Chilapa was partial. Concessionaires said they expected normal operations to resume if no new violence occurred. El Diario de Juárez reported that drivers in Tixtla, Chilapa, Mártir de Cuilapan and Juan R. Escudero had been ordered to block roads and faced a 1,000-peso fine if they refused; most drivers disobeyed, but many chose not to operate on Friday.
The Guerrero State Attorney General's Office had not confirmed whether residents were shot during the disturbances. Neighbors told the newspaper that at least four people were wounded by gunfire from federal forces and said Gerardo López, a resident of Colotlipa in Quechultenango, died from gunshot wounds. Those accounts remain attributed to local residents and were not confirmed by the state prosecutor's office. The report also said the criminal group Los Ardillos operates in the area.
