“The state became an uncontrollable corridor for drug trafficking, human trafficking and the transit of individuals linked to extremist organizations such as Al Qaeda, Hezbollah and the FARC,” Ochoa Gallegos denounced in the missive.
The former interim governor of Chiapas, Willy Ochoa Gallegos, released on Wednesday a letter addressed to the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in which he points out that the ormer governor Rutilio Escandón Cadenas, current Consul General in Miami, is a threat to that city and the state of Florida, due to his ties to drug trafficking.
The former PRI candidate for the Senate of the Republic accused that the administration of the Morenista Escandón Cadenas was marked by “negligence, omission and worrying links with organized crime”.
“Proliferation of armed criminal groups: Chiapas became a battleground between the country’s main cartels, resulting in violent confrontations, road blockades and segregation,” he stated in the missive written in English.
Ochoa Gallegos highlighted the humanitarian crisis, disappearances, femicides and forced displacements and indicated that, “these were not hidden damages but direct consequences of the uncontrolled violence. More than 15,000 people were forced to abandon their homes, and some even fled to Guatemala in search of safety”.
In the government of Rutilio Escandón, he added, there was an “institutional collapse and corruption: During his administration, Chiapas ranked as the state with the highest perception of corruption in Mexico, reaching 88.3 percent, according to a study by the Mexican Institute for Competitiveness (IMCO)”.
Willy Ochoa, provisional governor of Chiapas for 7 days from August 29, 2018 to September 4, 2018, following Manuel Velasco Coello’s leave of absence to be sworn in as senator of the republic, highlighted that the above, are just some examples of the serious security and governance crisis that Chiapas suffered under his mandate.

Therefore, he urged Donald Trump’s administration, through the State Department and the National Security Council, to thoroughly review Rutilio Escandón Cadenas’ credentials.
“I urge you to evaluate whether his presence in Miami aligns with your government’s principles on security, counter narcotics and the fight against organized crime. Accepting him as consul would send a troubling message to the citizens of Chiapas, Florida and the entire region that negligence, corruption and complicity can be rewarded with diplomatic privileges.”
“For the 5.2 million Chiapanecos abandoned under his administration, this is not a minor matter”, referred the former candidate of the “Vamos por Tuxtla” Alliance (PRI-PAN-PRD) to the Municipal Presidency of Tuxtla Gutierrez, in the election of June 6, 2021.
Justice, he said, “demands that such a figure shouldn’t receive asylum or protection in the United States, a nation that has long been an example of responsibility and the rule of law”.
The politician assured that his letter is inspired solely by the spirit of freedom of expression, with the utmost respect for the constitutional powers of the Presidency of the Republic and the Senate of the Republic. “However, we firmly believe that the appointment of public officials shouldn’t be a reward for political loyalties or complicity”.
The relationship between Mexico and the United States, he stressed, requires dignified representatives, individuals who embody the principles of justice, good governance and security. “I cannot remain silent in the face of a decision that endangers both the citizens of Chiapas and the residents of Florida,” he said.
He stated that, as a former governor and legislator, he dedicated “my life to strengthening institutions and serving my community”.
