Tijuana reporter Yolanda Caballero suffered an attack on her van after an individual threw molotov cocktails inside, during the afternoon of Thursday, February 1st.
According to preliminary information, the event occurred around 3:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Loma Dorada circuit, next to Boulevard Casa Blanca, in Tijuana.
In the security recordings, a subject wearing black clothing can be seen approaching from the co-pilot side, who breaks the window to insert an object; later, it is observed how the vehicle catches fire in a matter of seconds, at the moment the subject gets into another vehicle and flees the scene.
At the moment, it has been reported that the reporter is out of danger.
“Bomberos Tijuana managed to extinguish the fire; however, currently personnel from the Municipal Police and National Guard are guarding the area, as well as personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office who are processing the scene.”
The governor of Baja California, Marina del Pilar, commented on social media that she had communicated with Caballero and offered support and assistance to guarantee their safety.
In the same way, he reiterated that the State Citizen Security Force (FESC) and the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) were instructed to get to the bottom of the case and punish those responsible.
He concluded by saying, “In Baja California, freedom of expression is a fundamental value, so as an authority, I am committed to guaranteeing the free exercise of journalistic activity and the peace of mind of all Baja Californians.”
On the other hand, the XXIV Tijuana City Council, through a statement, expressed its disapproval of the act committed against the reporter. Likewise, Mayor Montserrat Caballero regretted what happened and reiterated that the State Attorney General’s Office will be urged to carry out the relevant investigations.
In the same way, it condemned the generation of defamatory acts and accusations taken out of context in the heat of the current political environment.
