Federal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, acknowledged that the Santa Rosa de Lima group’s fight against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which dates back to 2017, is still ongoing.
Federal Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, asserted that the Santa Rosa de Lima Cartel is greatly weakened by internal struggles between family members and internal cells seeking power within the organization.
In a virtual interview with Guanajuato media, he acknowledged that the Santa Rosa de Lima group’s fight against the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, which dates back to 2017, is still ongoing.
“The Santa Rosa cartel operates among family members. We’re monitoring its leaders, who are relatives of El Marro, who has already been arrested. While it is feuding with the Jalisco Cartel, this group also has many different cells that have also been fighting among themselves,” he commented.
However, he considered that the internal struggles between the leaders of Santa Rosa de Lima who lead the organization, against cells of the same group, are what have them most weakened. However, he added that this internal struggle also continues to generate violence in the state of Guanajuato, mainly in the municipalities of the Laja-Bajío region.
“We don’t see it as one group (Santa Rosa) against another (Jalisco), but rather the diminished group (Santa Rosa) has several cells that are also in conflict, and that unfortunately sometimes generates more violence,” García Harfuch emphasized.
The Struggle in Celaya
Emmanuel and/or José Guadalupe, alias “El Mamey,” is the alleged leader of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel in Celaya and has been waging a war with “El Monedas,” son of “El Marro,” for control of the city for two years.
This situation has generated violence in Celaya and other municipalities, as the group is experiencing an internal war, even more intense than the one it is waging against the Jalisco cartel for territorial control.
“El Mamey” is the head of the Santa Rosa de Lima cartel in Celaya, and although official sources have not released the information, reliable sources to La Silla Rota confirmed his arrest in mid-June of this year.
This criminal leader was arrested in Hidalgo, and in 2020, he was arrested in Celaya by the Special Reaction and Intervention Group (GERI) of the Guanajuato Prosecutor’s Office.
Meanwhile, the son of José Antonio Yépez Ortiz “El Marro,” better known as “El Monedas,” was released by a judge in June
