The Tamaulipas government asserted that the technological measures installed in penitentiary centers are finally yielding the expected results.
The state administration maintains that, following a series of recent improvements, phone calls previously made from inside the prisons have been virtually eliminated.
The Undersecretary of Sentence Execution and Social Reintegration, Juan Antonio Sánchez Ruiz, explained that maintenance performed a few weeks ago left the equipment operating with no room for interference.
“With the signal jammers and the latest maintenance carried out in September, it is guaranteed that there is no signal to the outside,” he explained, emphasizing that communications to the outside remain blocked.
Sánchez Ruiz emphasized that this action has had a direct impact on extortion practices originating from prisons. He stated that the technological infrastructure is operating at full capacity, which has complicated the activities of those who used the phones for illicit purposes.
However, the official pointed out that the intervention isn’t limited to telecommunications.
As part of a comprehensive strategy to restore order within the prisons, extraordinary resources have been allocated to improve operational and living conditions.
According to Sánchez Ruiz, the state government authorized an investment of over six million pesos to supply basic materials and equipment for the prison population.
“The governor has allocated significant resources to improve conditions in the prisons. A new purchase of uniforms, sneakers, and sports equipment was authorized,” he commented. Among the supplies acquired are four thousand new mattresses, medicines, footwear, and equipment for recreational activities.
State authorities emphasize that these efforts aim to consolidate a prison system under greater control, with more orderly processes and better conditions for social reintegration. With clandestine communications neutralized and the infrastructure renovated, they affirm that the impact will also be reflected outside the prison walls: fewer risks and greater security for the public.
