The violence in Teapa reached a new level of severity this Thursday, August 29, with the murder of Ana Lucía V. G., 54, known as “La Muñeca.” The businesswoman was shot in the neck while she was in her restaurant “La Leyenda,” located in Colonia Municipal, on the side of the road to Villa Juan Aldama.
The attack occurred during the afternoon, and although Ana Lucía was taken to the hospital, she unfortunately died. Witnesses say that two men on a motorcycle were responsible for the crime, but as of the evening of that same day, no arrests were reported.
The incident caused a strong security operation in the area, including the mobilization of a helicopter to support the search for the attackers. Local and military authorities took control of the situation, while the State Attorney General’s Office began investigations to clarify the events.
Strong Operation in La Lima
In the framework of the “Tabasco Seguro” operation, federal and state forces deployed an operation in the La Lima ranch, also on Thursday, August 29. During the operation, two civilians were arrested for possession of weapons and illegal substances.
Other Acts of Violence
This case of violence in Teapa is just one of several recent incidents in the region. On the night of Wednesday, August 28, an armed attack in the Asunción Castellanos neighborhood left one person dead and another wounded. The gunmen, aboard a motorcycle, opened fire on a house while its occupants were having dinner.
In addition, early Thursday morning, authorities found human parts inside four black bags on the highway of the Arroyo-Oxiacaque ranch, Nacajuca. Next to the remains, there was a cardboard signed by the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG), increasing concern about the growing violence in the region.
The community of Teapa and its surroundings is shocked by these acts of violence, and it is hoped that the authorities will intensify their efforts to combat the crime that is seriously affecting the region.
