The Mexican Navy (Semar) announced two major drug busts last week, confiscating 3.3 tonnes of cocaine and 141 kilos of methamphetamine in separate operations. The cocaine, valued at 850 million pesos (US $41.9 million), was seized off the coast of Guerrero, while the meth, estimated at 41.8 million pesos (US $2 million), was intercepted in Veracruz.
Cocaine Seizures in Guerrero
On November 20, during a routine patrol in the Pacific Ocean, navy personnel spotted floating objects approximately 180 nautical miles southwest of Acapulco, Guerrero. Closer inspection revealed 30 marked tubs containing 1,554 kilograms of a white powder resembling cocaine.
The following day, another navy patrol discovered 45 additional tubs roughly 170 nautical miles southwest of Acapulco. These contained 1,786 kilograms of similar white powder. In total, both operations yielded over 3,340 kilograms of cocaine.
The confiscated drugs were handed over to state and federal prosecutors. Semar emphasized in a statement that these actions are part of their ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity and uphold security in Mexico’s maritime zones.

Methamphetamine Bust in Veracruz
On Sunday, Semar also reported seizing 141 kilos of methamphetamine from a ship preparing to depart from the port of Veracruz on the Gulf Coast. Authorities estimated the seizure to contain over 3 million doses of meth, valued at approximately 41.8 million pesos.
Ongoing Naval Operations
These seizures follow several significant busts in the same Pacific region. Three weeks ago, the navy intercepted 3.6 tonnes of drugs and arrested nine suspects. In July, 1.5 metric tonnes of cocaine were found floating 170 nautical miles south of Acapulco.
These operations highlight the navy’s critical role in disrupting drug trafficking routes and maintaining security within Mexico’s territorial waters.
