Mexican Marines Clash With Gulf Cartel Operatives 

Federal elements repel aggression, triggering a shootout in a rural area of this municipality.

A confrontation left one person dead, five wounded and more than 10 arrested.

A convoy of patrols of the Mexican Navy that were carrying out reconnaissance activities on rural roads and paths that connect the Santa Rita community in the municipality of San Fernando, were attacked by armed men.

This act of violence unofficially left one person dead, five wounded and more than 10 people arrested with high-caliber weapons, vehicles with homemade armor, tactical equipment and ammunition.

Following the attack on the federal forces, the elements repelled the assault, unleashing a hellish shootout and chases on roads in the rural area of ​​the north of the municipality.

On the outskirts of the community, the criminals abandoned vehicles with homemade armor; they barricaded themselves in a safe house, from where they attacked the agents of the federal forces; elements of the SEDENA and other police corporations arrived at the scene in support. Three trucks were found at the scene, two of them white with homemade armor and another under a roof; long weapons and tactical equipment were found in the criminals’ vehicles.

The detainees, the weapons, tactical equipment and vehicles seized from the members of a criminal cell were placed at the disposal of the federal authorities.

So far, neither the public security spokesperson nor the Attorney General’s Office has issued a report on the violent events that took place on Monday afternoon in the Santa Rita community in the municipality of San Fernando.
