The Los Angeles Times reported that Iván Archivaldo and his brother Alfredo Guzmán
Salazar, leaders of the Chapitos, have been in talks with the United States for about a year to explore a possible negotiated surrender.
Two sources familiar with the cases noted that the two have been holding these talks to avoid being captured or killed amid the internal war within the Sinaloa Cartel following the arrest of several of its members.
It is worth noting that in the United States, Iván Archivaldo is facing multiple federal charges related to drug trafficking, and a $10 million reward has been offered for information leading to his capture. As for Alfredo Guzmán, he is accused of leading the world’s largest fentanyl trafficking operation.
