CANCÚN.- The Cancun Forensic Medical Service is currently overwhelmed with at least 100 unidentified bodies, prompting a plea to the families of missing persons to come forward and see if they can find someone.
According to gathered data, in the last six months, cases of located bodies and victims of organized violence have been reported, as well as bodies in a state of decomposition found in homes in Cancún, which has added to the number of corpses waiting to be claimed.
A problem that authorities have encountered is that many of these deceased individuals are from other states and do not have families in this area.
Authorities warn that in the face of this problem of body accumulation, they may be forced to take them to mass graves, which could undoubtedly complicate any subsequent claims.
The General Prosecutor’s Office of Quintana Roo has established a new cemetery in the 249 region of Cancun to manage these cases, aiming to facilitate access and identification of the claimed bodies.
