PUERTO MORELOS.- The State Attorney General’s Office presented evidence and obtained a Control Judge’s ruling establishing the link of two male individuals to the crime of extortion against a victim whose identity is being kept confidential.
The accused individuals, in this case, are Santiago “N” and Esteban “N.” They are charged with committing a crime on February 12th of this year. According to the allegations, they arrived in a vehicle at a construction site located on the federal route Chetumal-Puerto Juarez in the municipality of Puerto Morelos. It is believed that they used a firearm to threaten the workers at the site and demanded the phone number of the engineer in charge of the work.
On that same date, the victim with a reserved identity received a phone call in which they were informed that someone would come to the worksite every day to sell supposed drugs, so they needed to contact the person in charge of the project to start paying their “quota.”

The Office of the Special Prosecutor for Combating Kidnapping and Extortion opened an investigation and gathered evidence to request an arrest warrant against the accused. After their capture, the accused were taken to the facilities of the Attorney General’s Office for medical evaluation and then handed over to the judicial authority.
During the continuation hearing, the judge reviewed the evidence presented by the prosecution and determined that both defendants had potentially been involved in actions that could be classified as extortion. As a result, the judge ordered their prosecution and imposed pretrial detention as a precautionary measure.
