According to the Secretary of Citizen Security of Baja California (SSC), Laureano Carrillo Rodríguez, Gustavo Antonio Camacho Espinoza, alias “Tavo,” an operator for a Beltrán Leyva cell, was a priority target in Baja California.
“We also have him on our target list. He’s on the list because he also faces accusations from U.S. authorities, and we understand that the federal government will be responsible for handling the case,” Carrillo Rodríguez commented.
According to the State Secretary of Security, 100 priority targets have currently been identified in Baja California, 33 of which are considered top-level targets.
“In Baja California, we worked with all the institutions we have, and we identified 33 objectives. These are the ones we are currently managing, in conjunction with the State Intelligence Center, the Armed Forces, the Navy, and ourselves. Together, we identified 33 priority objectives; these are first-level objectives. We also have second- and third-level objectives, totaling more than 100,” explained Laureano Carrillo.
The Arrest of “Tavo” and Others
Members of the Mexican Army arrested three alleged members of the Beltrán Leyva criminal group in Tijuana in the early morning hours of December 2nd. Among those arrested was Gustavo Antonio Camacho Espinoza, alias “Tavo,” identified as a cell leader and operator in drug trafficking to the United States.
Gustavo “N” is considered a priority target of the Federal Government and faces legal charges in the United States. According to military sources cited by the newspaper Reforma, his presence in the border city was part of the organization’s attempt to maintain influence in contested drug trafficking routes.
In a simultaneous operation, also in Tijuana, soldiers captured two men allegedly linked to the Sinaloa Cartel (CDS). The arrests were made after the National Guard, the Army, and the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime (FEMDO) of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) executed two search warrants.
During the raids, authorities seized nine kilograms and 330 pills suspected to be fentanyl, four handguns, one rifle, ammunition of various calibers, six cell phones, and two properties linked to the operations of both criminal groups.
The seized materials and the detainees were turned over to the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office (MPF) of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR), which will present them before a judge to determine their legal status.
