Officers from the Secretariat of Citizen Security arrested Juan Vicente “N,” alias El Panchito, 44, a former Mexicali municipal police officer, for illegal possession of a firearm.
The incident occurred in the Villas del Rey neighborhood when State Force officers were patrolling the Monarcas Causeway between Doblones and Laguna Mayrán. They located a man acting suspiciously and proceeded to intercept him.
During the search, a loaded firearm, a magazine, and 14 live rounds of ammunition were found among his belongings.
After the arrest, it was revealed that Juan Vicente had been a member of the Mexicali municipal police force; however, according to the director of the police force, Luis Felipe Chan, he was removed from the position for failing the security and trust exams.
“He was no longer part of the corporation a year ago; he had been permanently discharged for a year. The information provided by the trustee is that he tested positive for doping.”
According to unofficial information, the man nicknamed Panchito worked for the Los Rusos Cartel, which operates in Mexicali and its surrounding valley. His job was to act as a bodyguard for members of the cell and for rival drug dealers; he received a salary of approximately five thousand pesos a week.
The detainee was placed at the disposal of the Attorney General’s Office to continue with the corresponding legal proceedings.
