Federal authorities discovered a tunnel crossing into the United States in front of National Guard facilities in Tijuana, Baja California.
According to Zeta Weekly, the tunnel is located on López Portillo Avenue and Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, in the Otay Nueva Tijuana neighborhood, an area advertised as a rental location for food trucks.
Investigations revealed that one of the tunnels under construction connects to another that crosses the border into the United States. Previous investigations identified five cross-border tunnels on Lopez Portillo Avenue, leading the Federal Investigation Agency to conduct continuous monitoring in the area.
The new tunnel was found during a routine review of previously secured premises, with ongoing investigations in collaboration with US authorities.

Attempts to obtain details from the National Guard and the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) have been unsuccessful, and state authorities have also remained silent, attributing the operation to federal authorities.
These types of tunnels are often found inside residential houses or constructions that use simple house facades to evade detection.
In May 2022, a tunnel built inside a one-story house in Tijuana was attributed to the Sinaloa Cartel. The house, located just 800 meters from the Otay border port and 300 meters from the wall, was inhabited only by a guard dog.

On May 3rd of this year, another tunnel designed for illegal drug and human crossing under the border wall between San Luis Rio Colorado, Sonora, and Arizona was discovered by agents of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
The tunnel, found during a coordinated patrol between the State Security Police (PESP) and the US Border Patrol, measured less than five meters and allowed underground crossing through the steel barrier in the Sonoran Desert.
This region is currently disputed by different factions of the Sinaloa Cartel for drug trafficking, weapons, money, and undocumented migrants.
Authorities found various excavation tools hidden under leaves and weeds at the location, and the FGR in Sonora opened an investigation into the responsibility for these acts.
