The wife of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán said that the series she is planning with Rafael Amaya aims to delve into human dilemmas.
Emma Coronel Aispuro, still the wife of Joaquín Guzmán Loera, alias El Chapo, will produce a series about the Sinaloa Cartel leader, starring actor Rafael Amaya, known for his role in “El Señor de los Cielos” (The Lord of the Skies).
The two controversial figures, one as producer and the other as the lead in a series about “El Chapo,” will reunite to bring to life a “fictional crime drama.”
Emma Coronel was convicted of money laundering and drug trafficking in 2021, while Rafael Amaya, while playing El Señor de los Cielos, struggled with drug and alcohol addiction, which led to his hospitalization at Julio César Chávez’s clinic in Culiacán. He was released from treatment in 2020.
Emma Coronel Aispuro’s Motives
According to initial statements, Emma Coronel, the mother of Joaquín Guzmán’s twin daughters, has said she seeks to delve into human dilemmas related to power, loyalty, and survival.
Furthermore, although it will be fiction, Coronel Aispuro said she aims to “humanize” the Sinaloa Cartel drug trafficker through this story.
For his part, Rafael Amaya, who recently surprised everyone with his physical appearance, said, “It’s an honor to work with Emma Coronel and Maritza on this incredible project. We continue building through passion, discipline, and art.”
Joaquín Guzmán Loera is serving a sentence in the United States for organized crime and other offenses, following a long criminal history in Mexico.
