After various media outlets reported yesterday, including this one, the arrest of Guillermo Labrador Aragón, alias El Cholo Flechas. The Secretariat of National Defense confirmed the arrest of Francisco Javier Angulo Labrador, also known as El Frank 38 or El Flechas, the leader of the criminal group Los Flechas, which is linked to the Los Cabrera Sarabias cartel operating in Durango under the command of Ismael Zambada Sicairos, alias El Mayito Flaco.
It wasn’t El Cholo Flechas, who was arrested on June 28th in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo, Durango, but rather, the individual known as Frank 38 or El Flechas. The Mexican army reported that along with the criminal leader, three males were detained.
The information was confirmed by the command of the Third Military Region and the Tenth Military Zone, which reported that the arrest occurred on June 28 during surveillance patrols and land reconnaissance carried out by elements of the Mexican Army and the National Guard in the municipality of Pueblo Nuevo.
During the deployment, federal forces seized a minimi machine gun, nine long guns, four grenade launcher attachments, eight grenades, 2,329 cartridges and 65 magazines. In addition, tactical equipment, radio communication equipment, and six vehicles were secured, two of which had a theft report, according to the report released by Selena.
The federal agency reported that the four people detained and everything secured were made available to the Attorney General’s Office based in Durango, an instance that will continue with the investigations, the corresponding expert reports and will determine the legal situation of those involved.
This operation joins the actions that federal forces have been carrying out for several weeks in different municipalities of Durango, where searches, detentions and seizures of weapons, vehicles and properties have been carried out as part of the strategy to weaken the operational capacity of criminal groups. The internal security dynamics of criminal organizations have evolved towards specialized protection bodies.
An example of this is the Flechas group, identified as the security faction linked to the structure of El Mayito Flaco and the Cabrera Sarabia, in charge of containing antagonistic groups and securing key areas of influence, standing out for their loyalty, which is cited in corridos of the criminal group. However, this time the hundred trucks couldn’t prevent El Flechas from being arrested.
‘I am El Flechas, 100% at the order of El Mayo, there are 100 trucks that respond only to my command. When there’s war I’m leading the operation.’
Those are some of the lyrics quoted from the narco ballad, “Soy el Flechas,” performed by the band La Décima Banda.
