The Los Angeles Times recently revealed this story, which sounds like something out of a movie. The Jalisco Nueva Generación and Sinaloa cartels are stealing luxury SUVs from U.S. rental companies to transport them to Mexico.
Their modus operandi involves renting these high-end vehicles for a few hundred dollars in
border states and then smuggling them into Mexico. According to the California Highway Patrol, every year about 2,000 vehicles stolen in that state end up in Mexico.
There, they are handed over to criminal leaders for their personal use and are even armored. The report comes just one day after the Sonora Attorney General’s Office announced the seizure of this warehouse shown on screen, containing 17 luxury cars that had been reported stolen in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
