The Attorney General’s Office secured a 15-year prison sentence for money laundering against Zhenli Ye Gon.
In 2007, authorities made a historic seizure of over 200 million dollars in cash from the businessman after the Financial Intelligence Unit reported him for making irregular transfers to tax havens while he was the legal representative and a shareholder of a real estate company.
The judge also imposed a fine of 140,400 pesos and ordered the suspension of his political and civil rights.
Consequently, Zhenli will remain incarcerated at the Altiplano federal prison, while the Attorney General’s Office continues to pursue other proceedings against him for organized crime, drug trafficking, and weapons-related offenses.
