Mike Vigil: Why El Mayo Zambada Is Not The Author Of The Letter About His Kidnapping.

To me, it was like an episode of a soap opera called “narco clowns”, that’s how former member of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Mike Vigil refers to what was revealed in the letter attributed to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada, in which the 76-year-old man claims that his arrival in the United States was a kidnapping and not a surrender or cooperation with authorities.

Vigil spoke with Infobae Mexico about the letter which has generated various reactions from Mexican authorities, as the document attributed to the alleged leader of the Sinaloa Cartel includes names such as Governor Rubén Rocha Moya, Iván Archivaldo (son of Joaquín El Chapo Guzmán), Héctor Melesio Cuén Ojeda, and José Rosario Heras López.

But the former DEA agent expresses doubts about the authorship of the document, as it indicates that the possible author could be the legal defender of Ismael Zambada.

I do not think that he wrote that letter. That letter was written by the lawyer and for me it was totally illogical. For Mike Vigil, El Mayo Zambada is not a person who can be described as “ignorant”, so the boss knew that by capturing him, American authorities were offering a million-dollar reward.

One of the points questioned by Vigil is that Zambada came out of hiding with the objective of being the alleged mediator between Governor Rocha Moya and the rector of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa, Cuén Ojeda. Going to Culiacán would involve putting oneself at risk as a recognized person in the state, points out the former DEA agent.

It should be noted that in the letter attributed to El Mayo Zambada, the latter describes attending a meeting in Huertos del Pedregal, on the outskirts of the Sinaloan capital, and also that he observed armed and uniformed individuals. This last point is question by Mike Vigil.

According to what was stated in the letter, El Mayo “arrived with an escort of four people that he saw in uniform and thought, well, they are Guzmán López’s escorts. When have we seen the Chapitos or the Sinaloa Cartel use uniformed people? In the Culiacanazo, where there was a huge response from the Chapitos to rescue Ovidio,” expressed Vigil.

To further complicate the case, the alleged escorts of “El Mayo” mentioned in the letter (José Rosario Heras López and Rodolfo Chaidez) have not been located.

During the interview, Vigil considered that the Sinaloa Cartel does not operate with individuals dressed as military and brought up the case of the arrest of El Ratón, one of Chapo Guzmán’s sons. “We never saw any person dressed in uniform during the second capture of Ovidio Guzmán.”

Another one of the points that the former DEA agent criticizes is the submission that Ismael Zambada would have been a victim of. While the same letter highlights that part of the Mayo’s security team was left “outside the perimeter”, the document itself points out that two other individuals did accompany Zambada.

In addition, the former DEA agent emphasizes that the lawyers of Ismael Zambada have the goal of forming a defense for El Mayo. “I still believe it was a betrayal, a deception.”

Questions about the capture of Ismael Zambada have arisen since the moment of his arrest at the end of last July. At the moment, it is planned that El Mayo Zambada will be taken to Brooklyn, New York, the same place where El Chapo and Genaro Garcia Luna were tried, both linked to the Sinaloa Cartel.
