The Mexican Army, as reported by the National Defense Secretariat (SEDENA), seized weapons and vehicles belonging to the Toros del Cártel del Golfo group on the borders of Tamaulipas and Nuevo León.
During a motorized reconnaissance near the “Fenicias” wind farm, part of the National Public Security Strategy and the federal government’s zero-impunity policy, military personnel located and seized 25 firearms, 319 magazines, 4,046 cartridges, and 17 vehicles. The corresponding authorities will determine the legal status of the seized items.
SEDENA stated that the operation was based on intelligence work aimed at strengthening the rule of law and detecting criminal organizations in the country.
The Tamaulipas State Force revealed that, through the “Frontera Chica” operation on July 10, a monster-type vehicle and a Yukon truck were seized near El Quemado in General Bravo, Nuevo León. This seizure involved the Nuevo Leon Civil Force and SEDENA, who secured multiple units from a convoy of vehicles spotted in the area.
Images released by federal and state authorities show monster truck vehicles labeled “Special Reaction Forces Group Bulls,” allegedly an armed branch of the Gulf Cartel’s Los Metros faction, fighting for control of the border territory against the Northeast Cartel (CDN).
Meanwhile, the U.S. government issued a travel alert for its citizens due to reports of kidnappings on routes of a passenger transportation line departing from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, controlled by a Gulf Cartel faction.
The U.S. Consulate General in Matamoros reported ongoing “organized kidnappings for ransom on intercity buses leaving from Reynosa, Tamaulipas, operated by the transportation company Omnibus.”
The warning, issued on July 11, highlighted that these kidnappings primarily occur at night on Omnibus buses departing from Reynosa’s main bus terminal. Kidnappers have targeted passengers with connections to the U.S., including American citizens and residents.
Victims reported having their belongings and documents stolen, bank accounts emptied, and families forced to pay thousands of dollars in ransom. Consequently, the U.S. Department of State issued a Level 4 Travel Advisory for Tamaulipas: “Do not travel due to crime and kidnappings.”
The U.S. government urged its citizens to avoid traveling within or through Tamaulipas, governed by Morena party member Américo Villareal Anaya.
